Not labeling yourself just the action

A very interesting point was raised in the book “The Inner Game of Tennis” and it is something I have always felt strongly about.

Keeping in control of the situation. Instead of mentally giving away your power by saying to yourself “I am rubbish at backhand, penalties, free shots etc” This is labeling the whole person and is not productive.

You can say that “it was poor shot this time” leaving it open to be different next time you take that shot.

There is a massive difference between the two statements because the later enables you to control the future shot where as the first option becomes a self-fulling prophecy and something you could come to believe about yourself and this more to change than just a way you take a shot.

What believes do you have about yourself which you could change by just change the way communicate with yourself?

If you would like to talk about this some more or think that The Possible Mind could assist your in improving your performance please contact us.
