Dr Dabney Ewin and the Power of Healing Hypnosis

Paul McKenna in his book the Hypnotic Gastric Band discuss the healing hypnosis work of Dr Ewin, who by the way for those of you interested in Hypnosis has written a great book called 101 Things I Wish I’d Known When I Started Using Hypnosis.

In the section the Power of Hypnosis (page 56), McKenna shares how Dr Ewin treats people with severe burning, tissue damage and inflammation. Using Hypnosis the patients inflammation is prevented, heal quicker and with less scarring. This is truly amazing when you come to think about it, thought very possible, especially when we consider the ‘Nickel Sized Bump’ experiment.

This quote helps explain how Dr Ewins achieves this:

It is important to note that the therapeutic effects of hypnosis do not require trickery or amnesia. All of Dr Ewin’s patients know they have been burned, and he does not ask them to lie to themselves. He simply Hypnotizes them to and asks them to imagine cool, comfortable sensations over the affected are. That imaginative activity changes their body’s reaction to the burn. The enzymes that induce inflammation are not released, and as a result the burn does not progress to a higher level of damage and there is minimal pain during healing.
